Maliha Azami Aga
Maliha Azami Aga
(with all the pain which that involves), it provides a kind of nourishment.” Kenneth Clark
It is the human form that inspires me…repeatedly. Of that, the face and in that, the eyes. I take the liberty to choose to paint what I feel passionately about; using my artistic license freely, where I can shuttle between the world of abstract free form and then confine myself in a straightjacket of truth to form and detail. It is a quiet challenge that I set up for myself; I am my own competition. The human form inspires awe and wonderment and could be seen as a celebration of love, a study of form or a meditation on the nature of art. The female face (and in particular, her eyes), calls into question her vulnerability, isolation, anxiety and introspection. It works on many levels; my own private and personal stance, the actor in the painting and the responses it evokes in the audience, depending on their sense of awareness and level of intellect. It may look like a simple portrait but it functions on many levels – personal, social, psychological, open to interpretation but above all to be enjoyed, simply for what it is!
