Ujala Hayat graduated with an Honors’ degree in Fine Art from the National College of Arts Rwp, in January 2018. She is a Visual Artist and Writer, who works in traditional as well as contemporary mediums to express her contentious opinions on feminine portrayal, gender stereotypes, and pregnancy, initiating a dialogue between the social context and the subject, attempting to question subverting dominant cultures.

This painting is a continuation from a series titled “hold still while we do your portrait, so you can begin looking like it right away” . The series is a silent mockery of the system I am inevitably a part of, taking into account the social commentary around me, reducing myself to an object of specific purpose and aesthetic pleasure; subsequently creating a playful repetition in the work; a cycle of imitation, objectification and self objectification
